Wednesday evening
Over 70 people attended the Wednesday evening bilingual Carol service at St Benet’s on 16th December, 2009, despite the dreadful winter weather.
The London Welsh Camerata delighted the congregation with their versions of Sua’r Gwynt, Ar Gyfer Heddiw’r Bore and Ganwyd Iesu while award-winning mezzo-soprano Caryl Hughes sang traditional carols and thrilled her audience with a moving performance of the Allelua from Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate.
The congregation sang Christmas hymns enthusiastically in Welsh and listened to familiar and much-loved seasonal readings.
We welcomed quite a few new faces and everyone enjoyed a substantial buffet after the service.
This enabled some long-lost friends to be reunited after 40-odd years and it just goes to show that it’s quite true what they say about the Welsh – any two strangers will, within minutes, find a connection.
